Prepare for restoring a software wallet safely

Restoration requires the correct private backup and wallet type. This guide is for software wallets; hardware-wallet users should use the pairing guide.

Before you begin

  • Have the original private backup and identify the wallet type. Do not erase the existing wallet or backup.

Steps

  1. Confirm privately that you have the original backup for the intended software wallet before starting. Keep the current installation and data intact.
  2. In the genuine Daedalus application, choose the restoration option and the matching wallet type. If uncertain about legacy types, stop and ask staff before proceeding.
  3. Follow the local application prompts privately. After restoration, compare the expected funds and history. Unexpected results need investigation, not deletion of the original wallet.

Expected result

The restored wallet should match the intended wallet. An unexpected balance does not by itself identify the cause.

Consequences and precautions

  • Using the wrong backup can display a different wallet. Losing the only backup can make recovery impossible.

If you cannot continue safely

  • Stop if unsure; contact human support before changing wallet data.

Keep your wallet safe

  • Never disclose recovery phrases, seed words, private keys or spending passwords.
  • Do not delete, reset or move wallet data using generic instructions.

When to contact support

  • The symptom persists after the safe diagnostic steps, or funds appear at risk.
